Our Cultures & Values

Mayura Kannada Sangha – Central Iowa

At Mayura Kannada Sangha, culture is not just a celebration—it is a way of life. Rooted in the timeless traditions of Karnataka, we embrace a cultural heritage that is rich, diverse, and deeply meaningful. From classical music and dance to folk arts, language, literature, and festivals, our Sangha serves as a bridge between generations, connecting the past to the present with pride and purpose.

Our values are inspired by the essence of Kannada ethos—respect for elders, compassion in community, education through language, and unity in diversity. We strive to create a space where every member feels a sense of belonging, where children grow up understanding their roots, and where traditions are not only preserved but also lived with joy and relevance.

Through our activities, we promote:
- Samskāra (ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರ) – Cultivating moral and cultural grounding in youth.
- Sahabhāga (ಸಹಭಾಗ) – Encouraging inclusive participation across generations.
- Sāmudāyika Bhaava (ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಭಾವ) – Fostering community spirit and togetherness.
- Samskr̥tiya Samrakṣaṇe (ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ) – Protecting and passing on the essence of our Kannada heritage.

We believe that when culture is celebrated as a collective value, it brings people closer—transcending age, profession, and background. Whether through a child’s first Kannada song or a grandparent’s story from their village, every voice here matters.
